I'm watching the snow blizzard through my kitchen window as I write this blog. I thought, what a great opportunity to stay in and write every story I can think of. I realize I have two choices though. I can either stay in and write fictionalized stories or go out and make the stories happen. What would you do? Wait! Not so fast. The mayor of New York declared a state of emergency due to the snow storm. That means the stories I would go out to make I may not live to write them. As heartless as this may come across, the latter sounds like it would make a great story, except that someone else would have to write it. Ok, would you still go out or stay in? Happy Writing!
Yep...you've been missing out and you know it. Those precious ideas that pop up into your mind when you least expect them. And when you expect them, they don't come. "Only if I had a pen and a notepad around," you said. I've said the same thing too. Until I figured out a way to remedy the situation. Pens, pencils, sticky pads, notepads, iPad, and all the pad you can think of. They come in handy for moments like that.
My strategy is to have these writing tools with me everywhere I go. That includes the kitchen, the living room, the bedroom, dining room, and of course we do not wanna forget the bathroom. Absolutely not! I make sure I always have them around in those places. Oh yeah! I also have them in my car, in my purse, in my pocket, and in my bag. Let's just say, it's been a while now since I stop begging God to help me remember. That's how I take the Angst out of capturing my book ideas. Capture your ideas with these writing tools.
So, you've written your first draft and now you're ready to rewrite it. Oops! is what you say when you realize writing the first draft was a lot easier. And you start wishing first drafts were the only thing you had to do.
As a writer, I learn to appreciate editors. It's a lot easier for them to cut and throw those unneeded statements and ideas out. Mainly, because they have no attachment to them. Your ideas, as an author, are your babies and you cannot seem to throw them out even when they're out of place. Though hard, but it is possible to do. Just figure out the purpose for that particular writing. If any statements or ideas don't contribute to that purpose then just remove them and save them elsewhere.
